Hat to match Bootie Socks

My daughter begged me to write up my directions for the little hat I made to go with the Bootie Socks. So, Stephanie, here you go:

The Hat
Knitted with 2 circular needles

Materials: Worsted Weight yarn (model was made with Caron Simply Soft).
2 -size 8 circular needles with 16 or 24 inch cables
yarn needle

Cuff: With contrasting color, cast 56 stitches onto one circular needle. Being careful not to twist, slip 28 sts to the other circular needle. With the stitches on the needle tips, and holding the tips of the 2 circulars side by side, transfer the 1st st on the left needle (1st cast on stitch) to the right needle, then slip the 1st st on the right needle through the just transferred st and onto the left needle.

Rnd 1: Slide the sts on needle #2 onto the cable part of the needle and then drop it to the back. Using needle #1, knit the 1st 28 sts. Drop needle #1, pick up needle #2, and knit the 28 sts on needle #2.
Rnd 2: Drop needle #2 to the back and using needle #1, purl the 1st 28 sts. Drop needle #1, pick up needle #2, and purl the 28 sts on needle #2.

Repeat rnds 1 and 2 two more times (6 total rows).

Change to main color. Knit every round, always knitting the 1st 28sts with needle #1 and the 2nd 28 sts with needle #2, for a total of 4 1/2 inches from the beginning.

Shaping the Top

Rnd 1: *K2tog, K6, repeat from * around.
Rnd 2: Knit around

Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 decreasing the number of sts between the K2tog by one on each dec row until you get to Rnd 15 (K2tog around). There will be 7 sts left. Cut yarn and thread through the live sts remaining and pull tight.

Weave in ends.
Fold up cuff.

Bootie Socks

Bootie Socks
Knitted with 2 circular needles
Materials: Worsted Weight Yarn (model was made with Caron Simply Soft)
2 - size 6 circular needles with 16 inch cables
Yarn needle
Pattern Notes: When slipping a stitch, always slip as if to purl unless otherwise noted.
Each time you switch needles, tighten the 1st stitch to prevent ladders.
Special Stitches: SSK (slip, slip, knit)
1. Slip the next two stitches as if to knit, one at a time, to the right needle.
2. Insert the left needle into the fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog.
YO = yarn over
Cuff: With contrasting color cast onto one circular needle 24 stitches. Being careful not to twist, slip 12 sts onto the other circular needle. With the sts on the tips and holding the tips of the 2 circulars side by side, transfer the 1st st on the left needle (1st cast on st) to the right needle, then slip the 1st st on the right needle through the just transferred st and onto the left needle. You have just divided your bootie in half. Consider the instep sts to be on needle #2 and the heel to be on needle #1.
Rnd 1: Drop needle #2 to the back and using needle #1 only, K the 1st 12 sts. Drop needle #1 and pick up needle #2, knit the 12 sts on needle 2.
Rnd 2: Drop needle #2 to the back and using needle #1, purl the 1st 12 sts. Drop needle #1, and pick up needle #2, purl the 12 sts on needle #2.
Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 two more times (6 total rows).
Change to main color.
Knit 6 rounds always kniting the 1st 12 sts with needle #1 and the 2nd 12 sts with needle #2.
Rnd 13: K 2tog, YO (repeat around - making sure when you pick up needle #2 you begin with a YO and when you return to needle #1 you begin with a YO). This is the eyelet row. You should have 12 K 2tog and 12 YO.
K 2 rounds
Heel
Using needle #1 only you are going to knit in rows.
Row 1: sl 1, K1 (repeat across)
Row 2: sl 1, purl across
Repeat these 2 rows 5 more times for a total of 12 rows ending with a purl row.
Turning the Heel
Row 1: sl 1, K6, K2tog, K1, turn
Row 2: sl1, P3, P2tog, P1, turn
Row 3: sl1, K4, K2tog, K1, turn
Row 4: sl1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn
8 sts remaining
Gusset
Rnd 1: sl1, knit across. Using the same needle, pick up 8 sts along the side of the heel flap. Drop needle #1, pick up needle #2 and knit across the instep sts. Using the same needle pick up 8 sts along the other side of the heel flap.
Still using needle #2, knit the 1st 4 heel sts from needle #1 onto needle #2. Now slip the 1st 6 instep sts from needle #2 onto needle #1 (18 sts on each needle). You have just shifted your needles so your round begins at the center back of the heel.
Rnd 2: Starting at the center of the heel, knit 12 sts, place marker, K6 sts, switch needles, K6, PM, K12.
Rnd 3: K to within 3 sts of the marker, K 2tog, K1, sl marker, K6, switch needles, K to marker, sl marker, K1, SSK, K to end.
Rnd 4: K around, slipping markers.
Repeat Rnds 3 and 4 until there are 6 sts on each side of each marker (12 sts per needle, 24 sts in all). End with Rnd 3.
Foot
Knit 6 rounds
Toe
Rnd 1: K to within 3 sts of marker, K2tog, K1, sl marker, K1, SSK, K3, repeat on needle #2
Rnd 2: Knit around, slipping markers
Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 until there are 3 sts on each side of each marker (12 sts total) ending with Rnd 1.
Knit 1st 3 sts on needle #1 onto needle #2, removing marker. Slip the 1st 3 sts of needle #2 onto needle #1, removing marker. You are again shifting your sts to prepare for grafting the toe. Cut your yarn, leaving about 12 inches of tail, graft the toe or thread the tail back through the live sts, slip off the needles and pull tight.
Weave in the ends.
Thread contrasting ribbon through the eyelets.
